Attention to detail during the reclamation process adds significant value to Ozarkaeology products. Once a building has been reclaimed, our team goes to work carefully extracting each piece of barn wood by hand from its position in the structure. This is done in such a way that it minimizes any splitting of the lumber and beams. Such delicate removal of each piece from a reclaimed building can be painstaking, but necessary to minimize waste while reclaiming and preserving the material's authenticity.
Post removal, materials are sorted and bundled before being shipped to Ozarkaelogy's warehouse. At the warehouse, the reclamation team inspects each piece and hand removes any visually identifiable hardware or fasteners, again being careful not to split or damage the product. This "clean" material is then resorted, bundled and prepared for refinement where it will be made into unique modern materials ready for use.
Reclaimed wood materials have an important place in the overall building supply market as they help reduce our reliance upon virgin materials. According to New York-based Rainforest Alliance's SmartWood program, reclaiming 1 million board feet saves 1,000 acres of forest. |
